Verse 24: Gabriel The Archangel Gives Daniel a Mathematical

Prophecy

“Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy place.” (Emphases by author)

The first thing that needs to be addressed is the word weeks. It is the Hebrew word shavuim meaning sevens and it can refer to sevens of anything. However because Daniel has been dealing with the sins of Israel over many years (Dan 9:14-16) and he had been counting up the seventy years of Babylonian Captivity; it is safe too take these sevens to mean seventy years. Therefore seventy sevens of years (490 years) are determined upon your people and the holy city. Your people are the Israelites (the Jewish people of today). Daniel is being told by Gabriel the Archangel that he has come to give Daniel skill to understanding to make and understand the prophesy Gabriel will give him in Daniel 9:24-27.
